McKENZIE (October 2) - McKenzie Elementary held its annual Walk-to-School Day Wednesday with excellent participation. At least 302 students, 177 guardians and a few dogs made the morning trek, which was blessed with beautiful weather. more
HUNTINGDON (September 27) — Janice Newman has been answering emergency calls as the director of the Carroll County Emergency Management Agency for 26 years. She retired Friday, September 27, ending her long career in emergency management for the county. Even on her final day of service, Newman issued a flash flood alert in response to possible flooding. more

GLEASON — Lee Lawrence, principal at Gleason School, is the 2024 recipient of the A.F. Bridges Award sponsored by the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association-District 8. The award will be presented on November 12 in Jackson. more

HUNTINGDON — The Carroll County Clerk’s office now offers two versions of Tennessee disabled driver license plates, with or without “IN GOD WE TRUST” appearing below the plate number. Carroll County Clerk Darlene Kirk said if an individual would like the plate all they have to do is someone in her office for that type of plate. more
McKENZIE (September 28) — Active and retired members of two units of the Tennessee National Guard gathered for a reunion Saturday at the Armory. more
GLEASON (September 25) — Justin Melton of Gleason is a national champion driver for dragsters. Besides the national recognition he received in 2015, that honor will be remembered as motorists enter Gleason. more
GLEASON (September 26) — Addyson Black was crowned the 2024 football Homecoming Queen during pre-game ceremonies at Gleason High School. Miss Black is the daughter of Michelle and Brian Black. She is the manager of the football team, a member of the basketball and softball teams, and a member of the Beta Club, G-Club and Student Council. more
McKENZIE — An open house for the public was Saturday, September 28, 3 to 5 p.m. for the new multi-purpose sports indoor complex at McKenzie High School. Several area residents visited during the open house to see the indoor practice facility. more
HUNTINGDON (September 28) — Rain dampened but did not cancel the 31st Annual Huntingdon Heritage Festival. Rains from the remnants of Hurricane Helene devastated portions of East Tennessee and dropped about four inches of rain in northwest Tennessee. more
Recently, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) recognized The McKenzie Banner as a Centennial Business. Tennessee is recognizing companies that have been in operation for 100 years or more in the Volunteer State. more
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (September 15) — Three world-class athletes from McKenzie will compete in Wollongong, Australia next year after qualifying in Atlantic City in the USA Triathlon National Championship. more
McKENZIE — Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie is where the September 11 Inglenook Book Club meeting was held with 20 members in attendance. President Gail Mack called the meeting to order, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, Club Aim and Motto, and recited by all.  more
