SOUTH PITTSBURG (June 4) — After a single-vehicle crash in South Pittsburg early Saturday, four young men ages 16-22 were killed and one was critically injured. All four were current and former members of the South Pittsburg High School football team, which competed against the McKenzie High School Rebels in the Class 1A State Championship in December 2021. more
The LST-325 was part of the D-Day invasions that helped to win WWII. Also, barrage balloons from Camp Tyson in the nearby Routon community were also deployed to protect the ships was they approached and docked in Normandy. more

McKENZIE (May 30) — Memorial Day is to honor the memory of those troops who sacrificed it all in service to the country. The citizens of McKenzie memorialized those who did not return home to their families. more
HUNTINGDON (May 24) — Hundreds of citizens of Carroll County sought answers to their questions about the Carroll County 1000-Acre Recreational Lake. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will soon own the fishing and recreational lake, and their inventory of managed lakes in Tennessee does not include any lakes for swimming, skiing, or pleasure boating. TWRA hosted an event on May 24 at the Carroll County Civic Center to hear the public’s comments. more
McKenzie Farmers Market Reopens Saturday, June 4, 8 a.m., 2431 Cedar Street, in downtown McKenzie. The former Studebaker dealership was converted to an indoor/outdoor farmers market and allows area citizens to sell their homemade and homegrown foods and other products. more
Sunday’s baseball championship game was an honor to watch in person. The Banner Staff is extremely proud of your accomplishments this season. As I stood next to the dugout the entire game, your sportsmanship and loyalty to your teammates made me along with your fans and fellow alums proud. more
Gleason High School held its 2022 commencement activities on Friday, May 20, in the school’s gymnasium. Twenty-seven seniors graduated with Cameron Thompson as valedictorian, Grace Marie Long as salutatorian and Hannah Grace Stafford as class president. more
In the coming months, the parks and recreations of McKenzie will undergo a series of planned improvements. Expected improvements are to include but are not limited to a three field soccer complex with a concession stand and restrooms and a parking lot. more
HUNTINGDON (May 19) — During Thursday’s meeting of the Carroll County Electric Department Board, Financial Officer Ryan Drewry was selected unanimously as incoming general manager. The current general manager, Danny Brawner, will retire on June 2. more
Wow what a year! McKenzie High has sent six different sports teams to the State Tournaments this year. This is a historical first for MHS athletes reaching the state level so many times during the same school year. more
Region Semifinal West Carroll The McKenzie Rebels jumped out to a 6-0 lead on five hits in the bottom of the first inning after holding West Carroll scoreless in the top of the first. more

McKENZIE (May 11) — After over seven months, the council position representing ward two has been filled. In the Thursday evening meeting, Mayor Jill Holland nominated and the Council approved the appointment of Steve Watson to the vacant seat. Watson fills the seat held by Jason R. Martin who moved from McKenzie City Limits and is currently running for Carroll County Commission for District 9. more
CARROLL COUNTY — The five special school districts in Carroll County held commencement exercises last week and issued 284 diplomas. more
McKenzie (May 10) — The first of up to five roadside signs was unveiled on Tuesday, May 10, along State Route 22 near Carroll Lake. McKenzie Lady Rebels are the Class 1A TSSAA state basketball champions. Dani Dyer, the lone senior member, had the honor of unveiling the sign by removing the plastic covering. more
Virginia Ginger House of Carroll County was sworn in on April 30 to a term on the Executive Committee of the Democratic Party for District 24. more
TREZEVANT (May 3) — U.S. Congressman David Kustoff (TN-08) visited with West Carroll Elementary and Junior High students participating in the SIFMA Foundation’s Capitol Hill Challenge program, underwritten by the Charles Schwab Foundation. This national 14-week financial education competition pairs individual members of Congress with public schools in every congressional district, equipping middle and high school students to become financially capable and civics-minded. more
HUNTINGDON (May 6) — A new memorial marker is located in Carroll County. Gold Star families are honored for the loss of a loved one in military action. more
McKENZIE (May 7) — Bethel University conferred 307 degrees on Saturday, May in the Crisp Arena on the McKenzie campus. Graduates were conferred degrees on the levels of Associates, Bachelors and Masters for both in-person and online students. more
