WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) introduced the Rural Health Innovation Act, bipartisan legislation to strengthen access to care. This bill would help rural medical facilities to increase staff, extend hours of operation, acquire additional technology and equipment, and pay for construction costs. Representative David Kustoff (R-Tenn.) introduced companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives. more
McKENZIE (April 1) — McKenzie Band held its annual beauty revues for students in McKenzie Special School District. The competition included competition in six categories. The event was in the McKenzie High School Theatre. The winners ranged in age from 4 to 18 and are pictured. more

PURYEAR (March 28) — Representatives of Paris BPU, Silicon Ranch and Tennessee Valley Authority gathered in Puryear at the new 6.75-megawatt solar farm for a ‘flip the switch’ event to symbolically turn on the power the 20,410 solar panels (modules) in 230 rows that span 80 acres. more
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) today announced 43 grants totaling $203,244,525 from the state’s American Rescue Plan (ARP) fund, part of which TDEC is administering in the form of drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure grants. more
HARDIN COUNTY, — A 79-year-old Tennessee boater lost his life on the Tennessee River. The body believed to be William Mayfield from Silverton, Tennessee was recovered Saturday, April 1, on the Tennessee River and is being sent for an autopsy for positive identification. more
HUNTINGDON — A new county holiday is proposed and a donation of $400,000 to the Inclusion Park are both included in the agenda for the April 10 meeting of the Carroll County Commission. more

CARROLL COUNTY (April 3) — Twelve high school seniors from Carroll County were recognized by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce for their academic excellence by scoring a 29 or better on the national ACT test. The Carroll County Chamber hosted a luncheon on April 3 at Mallard’s Restaurant to honor these students. more
McKENZIE (April 1) — Friday evening’s severe weather did not hamper Saturday’s Easter egg drop at McKenzie City Park. Thousands of children and their parents gathered at the park to partake in the McKenzie Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Easter Egg Drop. Members of the chamber along with vendors and volunteers from the community, McKenzie High School and Bethel University came together to make the event a resounding success. more
The roots of bluegrass music run deep in the heritage of America. The traditional sound we have become accustomed to was developed in the 1940s in the Appalachian region.
