NASHVILLE — The percentage of unemployed persons increased slightly in the tri-county area of Carroll, Henry, and Weakley counties. Unemployment is near historic lows in the area, however, for the month of January 2023, the percentages increased while the state’s rate moved up to 3.5 percent from 2.9 percent from December 2022 to January 2023. Carroll County recorded a rate of unemployment at 4.6 percent in January compared to 3.5 percent one month earlier and 4.2 one year earlier. From a labor force of 11,094 were employed from a labor force of 11,629, leaving 535 unemployed. more
McKENZIE (March 7) — During the Tuesday evening meeting of the McKenzie Special School District Board of Education board members agreed to add cross country to McKenzie High School’s slate of athletic programs. Faculty member Beth Mathis will serve as the coach. more
McKENZIE (March 9) — The City of McKenzie Board of Mayor and Council met Thursday evening with a light agenda. Two individuals from McKenzie were appointed at the recommendation of Mayor Ryan Griffin to the planning commission and housing authority. A.J. Maxwell was appointed to the McKenzie Regional Planning Commission and Karen Fowler was appointed to the housing authority. more
HENRY COUNTY — A boating accident happened on the West Sandy portion of Kentucky Lake in Henry County at approximately 5 p.m. on Friday, March 10. The boating incident resulted in one fatality of a 39-year-old man. more
McKENZIE (March 13) — After defeating the Moore County Raiders 55-36 on Monday, March 6 in the Sectionals, the McKenzie Rebels are en route to the Glass House - the Murphy Center on the campus of MTSU. more
MURFREESBORO (March 13) — Kylie Reynolds of McKenzie is one of two finalists for the Class 1A, Division I Miss Basketball 2022-23. She has committed to play collegiate ball at Bethel University. Kylie and her sister, Mikaela are both starters for the Lady Rebels and helped the team earn the Class 1A basketball championship in Murfreesboro in March 2022 and 2023. She averaged 16.6 points per game during her 2022-23 season. Kylie is the daughter of Stephanie McClerkin and the late Roscoe McClerkin. more
MURFREESBORO (March 11) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels defended their state title by defeating the Wayne County Lady Wildcats 71-54. The Lady Rebels took a quick lead in the first quarter and added onto that throughout the night. more

From her stare that sends chills down your spine to her eight national championships coaching the Lady Vols basketball team, Summitt was the epitome of class on and off the court. The legendary status of a coach is upheld by her list of accolades which include membership in the Basketball Hall of Fame, coach of the year, coach of the century, winningest coach, mentor and philanthropist. more

McKENZIE (March 6) — The McKenzie Rebels are headed back to state after they punched their ticket with a 55-36 victory over the Moore County Raiders. The Rebels started the game off with a ten-point lead and added to that throughout the night. more
The Carroll County Commission will meet Monday, March 13 at 7 p.m. at the Carroll County Complex. The March agenda consists of the following items: Resolution 3-01-2023 - reappoint Brent Dillahunty and Michael Tate and appoint Ryan Drewry to the Carroll County Industrial Development Board; Resolution 3-02-2023 - pledge $500,000 of American Rescue Plan Act Funds for maintenance, repair and improvements to the Carroll County Office Complex; and Resolution 3-03-2023 – authorizing Carroll County to join the State of Tennessee and other local governments in amending the Tennessee State-Subdivision Opioid Abatement Agreement and approving the related settlement agreements. more

Mayor Nina Smothers read a proclamation that proclaimed February 28 as Huntingdon Middle School Boys’ Basketball Team Day in Huntingdon. more

CARROLL COUNTY (March 5) — Severe weather hammered the mid-south area over a three-day period last week starting on Wednesday. For Carroll County, the most intense action took place on Friday with severe storms in the morning and dangerously high winds throughout the day, knocking out power to roughly 6,456 Carroll County Electric Department (CCED) customers. more
TREZEVANT (February 14) — The Town of Trezevant is redeveloping its park with new playground equipment and a performing arts stage. During the February 14 meeting of the Mayor and Council, a report was given by Councilman Dan Dieringer and City Recorder Kathy Edwards that the Park Development and Restoration Project is underway. more
