Sonic Donates $10,000 to McKenzie Schools

McKENZIE (September 18) — SONIC today announced the brand has donated $10,000 this month to fund classroom projects at McKenzie public schools in honor of a nearby SONIC® location being recognized as one in the Top 50 SONICs in the country this year. To honor the SONIC crew at 15755 Highland Drive, the SONIC® Foundation donated $10,000 to support area schools, students and educators. The donation funded educational projects on DonorsChoose, a website that allows people to donate directly to classroom requests submitted by public school teachers across the U.S.

Theft of Merchandise — According to a report made on Sept. 6, Officer Brad Allen was dispatched to Walmart in Huntingdon for a shoplifting complaint. Store security stated that Laquita R. Baker, 49, had taken a dog bed, a can of Lysol spray, and a woman’s skirt, valued together at $42.97. The merchandise was recovered, and Baker was cited into General Sessions Court for theft of property involving merchandise.

Crime Rate Improves Under Chief White's Leadership

The McKenzie Police Department was short-staffed when Ryan White became police chief in 2022. The department had 17 officers, and only nine of those officers were certified to work solo. In three years, White and McKenzie Mayor Ryan Griffin have worked in tandem to increase the department’s officer allotment to 22 personnel — all certified. The department’s growth in personnel numbers contributed to a significant drop in McKenzie’s crime rates in 2024.

NASHVILLE — Beginning October 1, Andy Holt will become Tennessee’s first, first-generation farmer to serve as the Commissioner of Agriculture at the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA). Holt replaces Dr. Charlie Hatcher, D.V.M., who retired after nearly seven years of service as commissioner and more than 21 years of state service. In a high-scoring affair, the War Eagles kept pace early in the game but the Vikings went up multiple scores in the second quarter. West Carroll cut into the deficit several times only to see it widen again, and Humboldt claimed a 62-38 win.
