McKENZIE (December 9) — On Saturday, Hometown Health Clinic hosted the free community event “A Very Merry Hometown Christmas” and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the opening of its newly renovated pediatric center. The event provided children with a chance to get their last-minute gift requests into Santa Claus along with a petting zoo, gift shoppe, a food truck and giveaways to Santa’s lucky little ones.

The City of McKenzie Board of Mayor and Council meets Thursday, December 14, to approve four appointments to the McKenzie Industrial Board. Those include the reappointment of Ricky Price (2 year term) and the appointment of six year terms to Mark Anderson II, Chuck Sisson and John Wright. Also up for discussion and approval is the recommendation of Earnest Umstead to the position of Water/Sewer Department Supervisor. If approved, Umstead’s promotion will take effect January 1, 2024 with the retirement of Billy Wood.

HUNTINGDON — Huntingdon annual Christmas Parade is rescheduled to Saturday, December 16 at 6 p.m. in the downtown area. It was originally scheduled for December 9, however, severe weather was predicted and the city leaders correctly chose to delay the event.

McKENZIE (December 9) — Eddie L. Shaw, 40, Cedar Street, McKenzie and Jaclyn N. Dodd, 32, McDonald Avenue, McKenzie, were charged with several drug charges after a traffic stop due to a display of registration violation.

ATWOOD (December 7) — Students, faculty, and staff of West Carroll now have a medical clinic on campus, thanks to an agreement with Evans Clinic of Huntingdon. The contractual arrangement provides for a medical practitioner to visit the three campuses each Tuesday to serve the people at West Carroll schools.

McKENZIE (December 5) — Carroll, Henry, and Benton counties are home to subterranean titanium, according to officials with IperionX. The publicly listed company is betting on the future of titanium mining in the northwest Tennessee communities to provide a lightweight, but strong metal for uses as aircraft, military vehicles, and even metal shields for EV batteries on automobiles.

HUNTINGDON (December 7) — Thursday night, Huntingdon High School held its celebratory football banquet at the Huntingdon Church of Christ. The Quarterback Club named seniors Ashton Hutcherson and C.J. Pelonero as co-MVPs for the 11-2 football season. Hutcherson scored 108 points for the season with 1,401 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns while Pelonero posted 122 tackles with nine sacks and two interceptions.

Domestic Assault, Drunkenness — Ethan Daniel Joyner, 33, of Yuma, was arrested on December 2 for Domestic Assault and Public Intoxication. Joyner was throwing and breaking items inside of his and the victim’s home putting her in fear for her safety. He then went through the victim’s vehicle throwing items out of the vehicle into the yard. Joyner was found outside lying in a neighbor’s yard.

The Huntingdon Fillies basketball team moved to 7-2 on the season with wins over South Gibson and Obion County. The Tuesday night 54-47 win against South Gibson was their second of the season over the Lady Hornets. Leading scorer for the match-up was Lilly Kee with 19 points, followed by Delaney Byars with 16, Josey Stokes and Annabelle Singleton with 7, Quinn Kelley 3, and Kelby Crossno 2. Hallie Allen and Karson Dunn led South Gibson with 13 and 12 respectively.

McKENZIE (December 8) — Just one week earlier, McKenzie Rebels and Decatur County Riverside football teams were playing in championship games. On Friday, December 8, many of those football players were representing their respective teams on the hardwood in McKenzie High School Gymnasium. McKenzie defeated Decatur County 56-39 in the nightcap contest. Decatur County was down in manpower with several key players absent. The Rebels are now 2-3 on the season, with the early losses, in part, because many of the team members were still playing football.

McKENZIE — After beating the Bellevue Bruins Friday night in a hard fought 56-47 battle on the opening night of the Holiday Classic, the (RV) Bethel Lady Wildcats had a much easier win Saturday beating the Harris-Stowe Hornets 77-37.
