Carroll Arts gathered some of Carroll County’s most talented residents Saturday, June 10, and placed them inside McKenzie’s First Cumberland Presbyterian Church for the annual Evening with Carroll Arts exhibition. The exhibition showcases visual, instrumental and vocal talents, all nominated by members and friends of the Carroll Arts organization, and is free to attendees.

New population estimates from the Decennial Census compare population growth in Tennessee counties and towns in April 2020 to April 2010. It also compares growth between 2020 and 2021. Though each of the tri-counties grew from 2020-2021, the census indicates decreasing populations in Carroll, Henry and Weakley counties from 2010.

Three weeks after the TCAP English/language arts (ELA) scores revealed that more than half of Tennessee’s third-grade students faced high retention risks, the Tennessee Department of Education released a new chart representing students from each school district who decided to retake the assessment.

The McKenzie High School Alumni Association held its first official meeting Thursday, June 8, in the McKenzie High School Theater. Brad Camp, Class of 1983, led the meeting and reviewed the organizations new bylaws and committees. Attendees were urged to sign in via a Google Form where they inputted their names, email addresses and phone numbers for contact. They also answered when they graduated from McKenzie High School, their involvement in school organizations, and if they would be interested in joining a committee.

McKENZIE (June 8) — During Thursday’s regular meeting of the McKenzie Board of Mayor and Council, the Fiscal Year 2023-24 Budget was approved, taking effect July 1, 2023. The budget for next year is $5,494,866 with an anticipated revenue totaling $6,046,662 creating a surplus of $551,796.

Average gasoline prices in Tennessee fell 4.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.12/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 2.6 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 151.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 1.6 cents in the last week and stands at $3.87 per gallon.

McKenzie Chamber, Industry Banquet June 20 The McKenzie Chamber of Commerce and Industry Banquet is Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 6 p.m. at the Venue at Waddell Place at 894 Joy Sparks Road in McKenzie, Tenn. Easy Ambrosia Cake 1 angel food cake (use directions on box) 1 package frozen coconut (or 1 can 3 1/2 oz.) 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup orange juice 1 pint cream, whipped 1 can crushed pineapple (2 cups) with juice Bake cake and cool. Break in bite size pieces. Whip cream and combine with other ingredients. Place in 9x13 pan or dish. Chill overnight.
