Area high school basketball teams saw district tournaments disrupted by winter weather last week. Some districts have since completed their tournaments, but others are still in process. Region tournament schedules had not been released as of The Banner’s press deadline. more

District Tournaments This Week, Weather Prompts Changes
The high school basketball regular season has ended, and district tournaments begin this week for area teams. The potential for winter weather on Tuesday, February 18 has already prompted some changes to game times, and further changes could be necessary later in the week depending on accumulation and road conditions. more

MURFREESBORO (February 1) — The Huntingdon Middle School Fillies completed a trifecta for Huntingdon Middle School Saturday at Middle Tennessee Christian School as they defeated Rickman 72-39 to win their first-ever state championship. more

Huntingdon Sweeps McKenzie
McKENZIE (January 27) — The storied rivalry continued Monday as McKenzie High School hosted Huntingdon for a pair of basketball contests, their first meeting of the season. The Fillies pulled away in the second quarter en route to a 67-35 win. The Rebels took an early lead, but the Mustangs had the edge down the stretch to claim an 86-79 victory. more

Mustangs Battle, Fillies Cruise in Waverly Sweep
HUNTINGDON (January 21) — Huntingdon High School hosted Waverly Tuesday for a pair of district basketball contests. The Fillies built a solid lead over three quarters, then dominated the fourth for a 74-42 victory. The Tigers kept it close through three frames, but the Mustangs pulled away at the end for a 69-55 win. more

Huntingdon Adds Wins on Homecoming
HUNTINGDON (January 24) — Huntingdon High School celebrated basketball Homecoming Friday with a sweep of district opponent Stewart County. The Fillies amassed a sizable lead after three quarters, but had to hold off a late Lady Rebel rally for a 65-56 win. The Mustangs started strong and cruised to a 91-58 victory. more
