HUNTINGDON (June 13) — Members of the Huntingdon Special School District (HSSD) Board of Education met June 13 in an informal session to discuss the 2023-24 fiscal year budget. Dr. Jonathan Kee, director of schools, highlighted the proposed budget to be voted on Wednesday, June 21. more
HUNTINGDON (April 19) — Huntingdon Special School District Board of Education is seeking a $1 million Innovative School Model grant to better prepare students in middle and high school for future success. The school also plans to add five teachers to the faculty for the upcoming school year. more
MURRAY, Ky. — Progress toward a new School of Veterinary Medicine at Murray State University continues to be made, as House Bill 400 was passed by the Kentucky House of Representatives on Feb. 15 after advancing from the House Agriculture Committee on Feb. 7. more
Weakley County Schools is honored to celebrate Mr. Jeff Cupples, the incoming director of schools. Director Cupples has already hit the ground running in transitioning to the position with preparations to work alongside the School Board and current Director of Schools Randy Frazier, who is set to leave the role officially at the end of May. more
During the regularly scheduled McKenzie Special School District Board meeting June 15, the school board voted unanimously to approve the 2023-24 budget, proposed by Dr. Justin Barden, McKenzie’s new director of schools, and Brad Davis, the new school finance director. more

McKENZIE (April 18) — Dr. Justin Barden was selected as the new director of schools for the McKenzie Special School District. Barden, a native of Jackson, received five votes out of seven during a special-called meeting to choose the next director of schools. more

McKENZIE (January 3) — The process begins to interview and hire a new director of schools for the McKenzie Special School District. Lynn Watkins, 59, director of schools at McKenzie, is retiring June 30, 2022 after 14 years of service as director of schools. more

The Tennessee Department of Education released scores from the spring English/language arts (ELA) TCAP assessment Wednesday, May 25, revealing that more than half of Tennessee’s third-grade students are not meeting proficiency in the subject. While some area schools have higher proficiency percentages than the statewide average, McKenzie, Hollow-Rock/Bruceton, Milan and West Carroll special school districts have found their percentages below the state average. more
