BRENTWOOD (June 19) — Derek Carr was named to the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) 75th Anniversary Team on Monday, June 19. Carr, a 2008 graduate from McKenzie High School and a 2012 graduate from the University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM), was one of eight Skyhawk honorees and one of 135 football players chosen for the team. more
HUNTINGDON (October 26) — In a brief meeting of the Carroll County Electric Department’s Board of Directors on October 26, members voted on a single item of business: purchasing a ‘small’ bucket truck. more
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Kennedy Reese, of Gleason, was named to the University of Alabama’s president’s list for the spring 2023 semester. Students on the president’s list must be full-time students and maintain an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). more

OXFORD, Miss. — Loral Winn, of Dresden, was among more than 3,100 students invited to walk across the stage at the University of Mississippi’s 170th Commencement exercises. The university’s individual colleges and schools held the commencement ceremonies during May 10-14. more
McKENZIE (October 28) — The annual Fall Fest hosted by the McKenzie Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization, raised approximately $24,000 for the one-day event. more
Stephen Brown, a lifelong McKenzie native and CSX engineer, had the recent honor of working the CSX Santa Train, which runs through parts of Kentucky, Virgina, and Tennessee along the Appalachian Trail. In its 81st year, the Santa Train carried approximately 13 tons of supplies to those along the 110-mile route, consisting of toys, food, wrapping paper, and stuffed backpacks. The train embarked on its 10-hour journey beginning in Pikeville, Kentucky and ending in Kingsport, Tenn. more
