HUNTINGDON (January 8) — The Carroll County Election Commission is preparing for three elections this year in March, August and November with new voting equipment and paper ballots. The first election will be on March 5, 2024 with the presidential preference primary and county primary election. Currently, 22 candidates have qualified for 18 school board seats throughout the county, but only one school board candidate will appear on the March partisan primary ballot.

NASHVILLE (January 2024) — Unemployment rates in the tri-counties of Carroll, Henry and Weakley counties decreased from November to December 2023. The latest labor force estimate from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development indicates the tri-counties’ overall employment has improved.

HUNTINGDON (July 28) — Carroll County Electric Department customers are opening their monthly statements to electric bills that are on average 21 percent higher than the same period last year. McKENZIE (December 8) — During the regular monthly meeting of the City of McKenzie Board of Mayor and Council, Resolution 22-005 was adopted. The resolution deals with the mitigation plan for Carroll County and the incorporated cities of Huntingdon, McKenzie, Bruceton, Hollow Rock, Clarksburg, Trezevant and Atwood.

Average gasoline prices in Tennessee have risen 3.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.12/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 13.8 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 89.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 5.9 cents in the last week and stands at $4.19 per gallon.

HUNTINGDON (January 4, 2024) — A year-long undercover joint operation targeting illicit drug sales throughout Carroll County has resulted in dozens of indictments and arrests. Today, during an extensive roundup involving numerous local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, various drugs and vehicles were seized.

HUNTINGDON (July 26) — After some animated discussion regarding Mayor Dale Kelley’s recommendation of Angela DeMaris to become executive director of the Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center, the council voted 4-3 to approve her for the position. DeMaris was serving as Director of Operations but had also been unofficially doing the theater director’s duties as well after Lori Nolen resigned. The position was not filled immediately due to the COVID pandemic.
