McKENZIE — Be sure to carve your best Halloween pumpkin to bring to the Farmers Market and enter the Carroll County 4-H pumpkin judging contest on Saturday, October 29. Pumpkin judging begins at 10 a.m. Afterward, there will be a fun science experiment to make the pumpkins explode. more

McKENZIE (October 18) — Free Wi-Fi will soon be available in downtown McKenzie. Mobile Communications America of Paducah was in McKenzie last week to install the radio-transmitting nodes on the top of the LED street lights to provide the radio signal. more
JACKSON (October 20) — BlueOval City, a manufacturing campus with Ford Motor Company and SK Battery, will transform West Tennessee, according to a public/news conference at the Jackson Fairgrounds on Thursday. Ford is investing $5.6 billion for the local manufacturing plants and a total of $11 billion in both west Tennessee and Kentucky. more

McKENZIE (October 11) — What was expected to be a debate between the two candidates for the office of mayor of McKenzie resulted in only one candidate attending. Mayor Jill Holland challenged challenger Ryan Griffin to debate the issues of the race, however, Griffin did not respond to the invitation and was not present at the Park Theatre venue. more

For those inquisitive minds who have wondered why I wasn’t visible around McKenzie last week, well I finally got to take a vacation. On our drive to the gulf coast, my mind wasn’t necessarily focused on the beach, restaurants, or what shenanigans the kids were going to pull. With each mile and small town, I thought about the poverty in the Mississippi Delta, stories of sharecroppers, and how once-thriving townships were nothing more than tiny specks on a map. more
