  • Gasoline Prices Fall During Week

    Tuesday, January 9

    Average gasoline prices in Tennessee fell 6.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.65/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 15.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 31.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 5.6 cents in the last week and stands at $3.90 per gallon.

  • Dresden’s Dresser Winn Back in the NFL

    Dresden High School and UT Martin football standout, Dresser Winn, has signed a contract to return to the Los Angeles Rams for a third time. The 2017 Dresden High School graduate originally signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2023.

  • Henry County Medical to Sell Nursing Home

    After months of discussion and debate, the Henry County Commission and the Henry County Medical Center’s board of trustees have given their blessing to move forward with the sale of the Henry County Healthcare Center. Since the property is held by the hospital, the county’s private act of 1953, which created the hospital, has to be amended and accepted by both houses of the Tennessee Legislature and the governor.

  • Senator Marsha Blackburn Makes Stop in Carroll County

    HUNTINGDON (January 4) — United States Senator Marsha Blackburn made a stop Thursday afternoon in Huntingdon as part of her 95 counties tour. Senator Blackburn’s stop in Carroll County was at the manufacturing plant of Dynamix Casting Fluxes. Local government officials with employees of the plant met with the senator.

  • Grand Jury Returns Indictments

    Tuesday, January 9

    HUNTINGDON (January 2) — The Grand Jury of the Carroll County Circuit Court were busy on the first business day of the new year. Among the indictments were 46 who were charged by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in Operation Broken Windows that involved the law enforcement departments of Huntingdon, McKenzie, Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Task Force.   • Judge: Intern Harassment Expenses Exempt from Public Records Law

    A Nashville judge ruled Tuesday that the expenses related to harassment of a 19-year-old legislative intern by then-state lawmaker Scotty Campbell are exempt from the public records law based on a House rule and a policy on workplace harassment. Journalists have found that at least $8,800 was spent to house and move the intern, but it’s unclear if additional payments were made.

    The McKenzie City Council meets January 11 at 6 p.m. with a light agenda. One items is on the agenda, discussion and approve a solid waste bid.

  • Carroll County Included in Amtrak Passenger Rail Study

    Tuesday, January 9

    NASHVILLE (December 2023) — A long-range study authorized by the State of Tennessee indicates Amtrak could have a new route through West Tennessee including Carroll County and eventually connect Memphis, Nashville and Chattanooga in Tennessee and Atlanta, Georgia. A $500,000 federal grant funded the study by Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR).

    The Martin Police Department has made two arrests in a fatal shooting that occurred at Cadillacs bar in Martin on December 31, 2023.

  • Candidates Qualify for March Primary

    HUNTINGDON (January 8) — The Carroll County Election Commission is preparing for three elections this year in March, August and November with new voting equipment and paper ballots. The first election will be on March 5, 2024 with the presidential preference primary and county primary election. Currently, 22 candidates have qualified for 18 school board seats throughout the county, but only one school board candidate will appear on the March partisan primary ballot.

  • Drug Roundup Nets 36 Arrests, More Expected

    HUNTINGDON (January 4, 2024) — A year-long undercover joint operation targeting illicit drug sales throughout Carroll County has resulted in dozens of indictments and arrests. Today, during an extensive roundup involving numerous local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, various drugs and vehicles were seized.

    DUI — Douglas Eugene Marshall, 55, of Huntingdon, was arrested for DUI on January 1. Deputy Daniel Thomas observed a blue Jeep that he suspected had a driver impaired behind the wheel. The driver, Douglas Marshall, smelled of alcohol and refused to do any field sobriety tests. He was then placed under arrest for DUI.

    HUNTINGDON (January 2, 5) — Tuesday evening the Huntingdon Mustangs and Fillies welcomed Martin-Westview for a non-district match-up. As defending state champions, the Lady Chargers arrived with a 12-1 record and led 35-27 at halftime. The Fillies battled back in the second half to win by four, 61-57. Leading scorer Lilly Kee surpassed 1,500 points in her high school career by posting 24 points, plus four blocked shots. Quinn Kelley followed by 12, Delaney Byars 10, Annabelle Singleton 8, Sara Beth Smith 4, and Josey Stokes 3. Ashlee Brent led the Lady Chargers with 14, while McCall Sims and Alexis Evans each posted 12.
