The Education Series takes center stage at The Dixie to deliver a unique learning experience for students of all ages. This series allows students to learn about science, history, and many other subjects through the theater arts performed on stage. The shows encourage students to engage in learning activities outside of the classroom. The performances will begin October 7, 2022, and run through May 3, 2023, with seven marvelous shows!

PARIS — Thursday, August 25 is the Class of 2022 Summer Graduation at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, W.J. Neese Campus, in Paris. Commencement exercises begin at 6 p.m. at the Krider Performing Arts Center, 650 Volunteer Drive, Paris. The keynote speaker will be Janna Brown, Owner of Utopia Salon in McKenzie, Tenn.

TREZEVANT (May 3) — U.S. Congressman David Kustoff (TN-08) visited with West Carroll Elementary and Junior High students participating in the SIFMA Foundation’s Capitol Hill Challenge program, underwritten by the Charles Schwab Foundation. This national 14-week financial education competition pairs individual members of Congress with public schools in every congressional district, equipping middle and high school students to become financially capable and civics-minded.

TREZEVANT – The Trezevant City Board met in their regular monthly session Tuesday, August 9 with an active agenda. The meeting got underway at 6:30 p.m. with a prayer and a roll call vote of board members present.

McKenzie Marching Rebels competed in the South Gibson Marching Invitational held Saturday. A total of 19 bands competed. McKenzie placed first in Band in Class A competition, third place in field commander, and first place in color guard.

Local students at the University of Tennessee at Martin were recently honored with the publication of the Spring 2022 Chancellor’s Honor Rolls for the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, College of Business and Global Affairs, College of Education, Health, and Behavioral Sciences, College of Engineering and Natural Sciences and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

McKENZIE — As parents and students prepare for back-to-school shopping, it is important to know what students are allowed to wear in the classroom. McKenzie Middle School made minor updates to the dress code for the 2023-24 school year, allowing compression pants to be worn if the bottom is completely covered.

MARTIN — Jimmy Tosh is known as a successful businessman and family farmer through his association with Tosh Family Farms in Henry, Tennessee. He’s also known for his generosity and his support for his alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Martin. Tosh was honored May 5 when the Tosh Family Classroom was officially named during an early afternoon program in UT Martin’s Brehm Hall. The event included Tosh, family members and university Chancellor Keith Carver.
