McKENZIE (November 2022) — The Polar Bar! Ask anyone who resided in McKenzie in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, and you will hear a favorite memory of the burger and ice cream shop. It was the hangout for high school students in the late 1950s and 60s before the chain restaurants and fast food restaurants. It was the place to get a whopper burger, fries, and ice cream and shakes.  more
In this December 20 issue of The McKenzie Banner is the annual Christmas Greetings section, including Letters to Santa from McKenzie, Huntingdon, West Carroll and Gleason schools, area daycares, and other individuals who emailed their children’s letters in to The Banner. The Macedonia Family and Community Education (FCE) Club met on April 10, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the community center. President Martha Peters called the meeting to order and read the thought for the day, “Kind hearts are the garden. Kind thoughts are the roots. Kind words are the blossoms. Kind deeds are the fruits,” Kirpal Singh. more
HUNTINGDON (September 15) — Friday night marked the first meeting between the Huntingdon Mustangs (Class 2-A) and the Crockett County Cavaliers (Class 4-A). The Cavaliers arrived at Paul Ward Stadium with an undefeated season record that quickly appeared in danger as the Mustangs took control defensively and limited Crockett County’s scoring efforts to only one touchdown for the night. Offensively, the Mustangs found the end zone five times and Greyson Anderson posted a perfect five for five on extra point attempts. The home field win against the non-region opponent gave Huntingdon a 3-1 record for the season. more

McKENZIE (November 9) — Savannah Davis chose to continue her athletic and academic career at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. The McKenzie High School senior signed commitment documents on Thursday to play basketball for the university. more

The monthly meeting of the Inglenook Book Club was March 13, 2024 at Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie at 3 p.m. with 18 members in attendance. President Gail Mack was absent so the meeting was called to order by Vice President Shirley Martin. more
HUNTINGDON (May 24) — Hundreds of citizens of Carroll County sought answers to their questions about the Carroll County 1000-Acre Recreational Lake. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will soon own the fishing and recreational lake, and their inventory of managed lakes in Tennessee does not include any lakes for swimming, skiing, or pleasure boating. TWRA hosted an event on May 24 at the Carroll County Civic Center to hear the public’s comments. more

The Inglenook Book Club met July 13 at 3 p.m. at Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie with 17 members in attendance. The meeting was called to order by President Carolyn Moore who opened with thanking our hostesses Zia Locke and Gayron Lyles for serving delicious pound cake, chocolates, and assorted beverages. The tables were decorated with red, white, and blue decor. more
Drug Violation — Wendy Love Calderon, 49, of McKenzie, concealed a hydrocodone pill in a clear plastic bag inside of her arm sling and brought the item into the jail. Jail staff discovered the pill during the defendants initial booking into the jail for her weekend time to serve. more
DYER (January 24) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels slid past the Gibson County Lady Pioneers 57-55. The Lady Rebels took the lead in the final quarter to secure their victory. MHS was down 73-72 with 12 seconds remaining. Briley Auvenshine with a huge offensive rebound off a missed shot, kicked it out to Kylie Reynolds for a 3-pointer and the win. more

REAGAN (September 15) — The McKenzie Rebels improved their record Friday night to 4-1 with the non-region road win at Scotts Hill. McKenzie handled Scotts Hill with ease as they picked up the 43-13 victory. more
